KHOU-TV Channel 11 in Houston has a story about Miguel DeJesus, one of the two criminals caught breaking into a home and were shot and killed by Joe Horn.
The article is highlights below in italics and my comments and thoughts are posted below.
The fiancé of one of the two burglary suspects shot and killed by a Pasadena homeowner denies he was part of an organized gang.
She’s responding to a report that the suspects were being investigated by federal authorities.
The denial comes one day after an exclusive 11 News report revealed new details about the Pasadena burglars gunned down by an angry neighbor.
Stephanie Storey talked about what law enforcement sources have said about Miguel Dejesus.
According to those sources, he is Colombian and had applied for a Texas driver's license using Puerto Rican documents.
Storey says, to the best of her knowledge, the Pasadena break-in was her fiancé’s first. “To insinuate that he was in some kind of criminal activity, as far as weapons, I know that’s false.”
Storey insists Dejesus could not be part of the organized syndicate of Colombian burglars and weapons dealers that a special task force is looking into here in the Houston area.
But 11 News discovered a Texas Department of Public Safety memo about the investigation into Colombians using fake documents to obtain Texas licenses.
Dejesus and the other man shot by Joe Horn, Diego Ortiz, were both Colombian.
“This doesn’t change the fact of who he was, what kind of man he was,” said Storey. “This doesn’t change anything for me.”
“We condemn the burglars but we believe that crime can never solve crime,” said local activist Quanell X.
Quanell X says the actions of Joe Horn outweighed whatever crimes Dejesus and Ortiz could have ever committed.
