Houston Chronicle's Take On Roger Clemens

In an article published in yesterday's (January 1, 2009 @ 10:22 pm) Houston Chronicle sports writer Richard Justice comments on all the harsh treatment former pitcher Roger Clemens has been getting recently.

He alludes that Clemens could repair this public image and get back in the good graces with the public if he comes clean on his "problems. he also states that perhaps all the negative happening coming down on "The Rocket" may be undeserved and over the top.

I for one, and I do suspect many others feel the same way, think he is getting exactly what he deserves.

If he had fessed up and faced the music, the public would have been a great deal kinder and more positive in their views of him. People love to forget and welcome somebody who has strayed back into the fold.

Clemens ruined that chance when he took his "holier that thou" stance and alienated the public. People LOVE to forgive a repentant soul and DESPISE a person who is truculent towards those whom admire him.

Clemens is getting what he deserves. As My Lovely Bride always says; "Pride goith before a fall." Perhaps The Rocket should have thought about that before all this started.

And there is the “issues” with and about Mindy McCready. You can bet that Pandora’s Box has yet to open fully.

Roger Clemens Is Screwed: Part 2

It's perhaps the deadest day of the sports year, which is extremely bad news for the sinking ship that is the USS Roger Clemens. Two weeks after Brian McNamee's lawyers provided syringes allegedly used by Clemens, admitted 'roid supplier Kirk Radomski reportedly found documentary evidence that HGH was shipped to the pitcher's house.

According to the Daily News, Radomski happened upon shipping receipts from 2002 and 2003 that document the sending of Human Growth Hormone to Clemens. The dates of the receipts coincide with times during which Clemens' wife used the drug in preparation for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot.

Such evidence seems to corroborate claims that the former Yankee and Astro introduced his wife to HGH and was present when she first used. Clemens denies having any knowledge of his wife's experience with the steroid. The cheater's gaggle of lawyers is denying any knowledge of such packing slips, but we all know that's a crock. Clemens has dug himself a grave, and every new piece of evidence shovels more dirt onto him.

He has no sympathy from fellow players or fans because of his increasingly ludicrous denials and has pretty much destroyed any chance at a Hall of Fame bid. Hope the underage country singers and shots in the butt were worth it.

"My body never changed. If he's putting that stuff up in my body, if what he's saying which is totally false, if he's doing that to me, I should have a third ear coming out of my forehead. I should be pulling tractors with my teeth."- Roger Clemens

Roger Clemens is Screwed: Part 1

Roger Clemens, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner, is under investigation for possibly perjury. He has denied under oath using HGH, or having any prior knowledge that his wife was going to use HGH.

New York Daily News is reporting Kirk Radomski the confessed drug supplier, has provided the authorities with shipping receipts for a package of two kits of HGH that he sent in late 2002 or 2003 to Clemens at the pitcher's palatial mansion in Houston.

These key documents may finally lead the Federal investigators to find the proofs wether Roger Clemens or Debbie Clemens had used HGH or not.

It seems that the LONGGGGGGGGGGG arm of the law may be catching up with The Rocket.

Barry Bonds Indicted on 15 Counts

The federal government filed a new indictment against Barry Bonds today, charging him with 14 counts of perjury for allegedly lying when he told a grand jury that he never used performance-enhancing drugs and one count of obstructing the government's investigation, ESPN reports.

The charges are essentially the same ones lodged against baseball's home-run king in November, before a judge ordered prosecutors to rewrite the original five-count indictment.

The feds need to go after him with all the force of their office. THIS GUY IS DIRTY!!

IF it had been me lying to a grand jury, I would already be in federal prison.

Hey, Barry, maybe you can share a cell with Wesley "Willie Mays Hays" Snipes. There is a good chance you and Roger Clemens may get back into baseball again: playing for the prison team!!

"No. I don't have to [use steroids]. I mean, I'm a good enough ballplayer as it is. I don't need to be any better. I can't get any better at this age." - Barry Bonds (MLB Drug Cheat)

Clemens Admits Mistakes (Whatever That Means)

Roger Clemens apologized today for mistakes he has made in his life, but still would not admit he used drugs or had an affair with singer Mindy McCready.

You can read the story
here.

This guy is unbelievable. He think people are going to by this BS. The sorry thing is that some will.

The Smoking Gun? Photo of Clemens at Canseco's Party

Brian McNamee's lawyers have informed the Justice Department that there is a picture that was supposedly taken of Roger Clemens at Jose Canseco's Miami home during a 1998 party that has become a central point of contention in the aftermath of the Mitchell Report.

You can read the story in the Houston Chronicle by clicking here.

Could Clemens have committed perjury and bring looking at an indictment? Check back for further developments.

Al Sharpton: Race a Factor in Steroids Scandals

Al Sharpton said Saturday that he believes the U.S. government has been pursuing black athletes more aggressively than white athletes in scandals over performance enhancing drugs.

In his weekly address to followers in Harlem, Sharpton compared the treatment of Barry Bonds to the treatment of Roger Clemens.

Sharpton said the members of Congress who were there for the hearing, "treated Roger Clemens like they were at a fan club meeting." He questioned why a steroids scandal had landed Bonds in trouble, but no white athlete of a similar standing.

Out of the mouth of Al Sharpton. He stirs up more troble each and every time he opens his mouth. It bothers me he is given so much credibility in the media. He is a rabble-rousing race baiter who only interest is himself and how any situation can benefit Al Sharpton.

Clemens, McNamee Both Lied?

After almost five hours, the thing ended pretty much where it began. We learned that Roger Clemens apparently had told some lies and that Brian McNamee lacks credibility.

If you thought otherwise, you haven't been paying attention. Even if everything McNamee said is true, his testimony is unlikely to send anyone to jail.

As Rep. Tom Davis said at the end of the day, each of us will have to make up our mind about who we believe.

For Clemens, though, the really tough part is just beginning. IRS special agent Jeff Novitzky was in the hearing room. So were six FBI agents.

Their presence means that Clemens is going to be the object of a federal criminal investigation that could go on for weeks, if not years. He should ask Barry Bonds how it feels to get up each and every morning wondering if that's a fun way to live.

Did Clemens succeed in getting his good name back? No, he didn't. But as he said, he may never be able to do that.

Some will always suspect him of cheating. They will use the damning testimony of Andy and Laura Pettitte and the timing of contact with a former nanny.

This case will continue fo a long time. Stay tuned for updates.

McNamee: "I Injected Debbie Clemens With HGH"

According to a Washington source, former trainer Brian McNamee told congressional investigators that he injected Roger Clemens' wife, Debbie, with HGH before she appeared with Roger in Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue in 2003.

She has a post on her website (
debbieclemens.com) about this specific incident.

"Roger came to me one day and told me that we had been asked to do a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated," Debbie Clemens recalls. "I had major anxiety! I was a 39-year-old mother of four! Once I realized that this WAS going to be a reality, I decided I had to give it everything I had. My mind was set. I am not a risk taker, but have since learned that with great risk, sometimes comes great reward. The responses from that experience have been wonderful and I feel it was a turning point in my life. It's nice to have a goal for yourself and to see it through. The goal kept me motivated and focused. Using common sense and my ability to balance my life, I achieved that goal."

McNamee says that he injected her with HGH at Roger Clemens' direction in the master bedroom of their Houston home.

Now answer me this? Does this look like the body of a 39-year-old mother of four? I think not! I do not care if you are a personal trainer, workout everyday, and can hire a slew of trainers to help get your body into shape. Those abs are manufactured, along with some other parts of her body.

Look at that body. There is no doubt in my mind that she did not get in that type of shape without the help of drugs. It would take a person years and years of serious training to have a body like that.

If McNamee did inject her with HGH, then that is their business. However, it could be construed that this is a smoking gun. If she was using HGH and it was on the suggestion of her husband, would it not be logical to assume that Roger was also using HGH.
I could picture this actually happening. Sports Illustrated approaches Clemens about a photo spread with he and his wife. His wanting to maintain his macho image and having a wife who looks as hot as he is buff would certainly boost his popularity and possibly his bank account.

In the scheme of things, does this really matter in the world if Roger Clemens used performance-enhancing drugs? No, it does not. What is at steak is the reputation of a person who used shortcuts to further his career and the integrity of the sport said person competes in.

Professional sports have become about money; nothing more and nothing less. Professional athletes are performers. They are there to entertain the masses. That is what they are paid to do. When money is involved, people will do anything to get to the top and stay there. Clemens is no exception. He liked being on the top and was willing to do anything to remain there. A blind man could see it.

What will nail Roger Clemens wilis his refusal to tell the truth when questioned under oath. They nailed Marion Jones for it. They nailed Martha Stewart for it. They will eventually nail Barry Bonds for it.

Clemens will find out what it is like to a felon very soon. The testimony of Clemens and McNamee will speak volumes on Wednesday.

Reasons Clemens Might Be Injected With B-12 and Lidocaine

The Boston Globe has a story raising questions about legitimate medical reasons for the treatments that Clemens claims?

Clemens claimed to have been injected with Lidocaine and vitamin B-12. Dr. George Blackburn, director of the Center for the Study of Nutrition Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has some interesting answers for those questions.

You can read the article by clicking
here.

I have talked to people in the medical field and most have said they could see no reason for him to take those injections.

They added there is a chance that they could be beneficial, but it would be in extreme cases.

I stick with my assumption that he DID take steroids and is now trying to cover it up.

The plot thickens. I will keep abreast of the coming testimonies before Congress and post more later.

Clemens Speaks Before Texas High School Baseball Coaches

Roger Clemens spoke today to members of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association today in Waco. It was reported in the Houston Chronicle.

I have seen Roger Clemens pitch in person. He was remarkable. However, I think he probably did use performance enhancing drugs. Too many things in his statement do not add up, and I think where there is smoke, there is fire.

He was free to speak to the coaches and they were free to listen. The article stated he was warmly accepted. I would expect no less from a group that had invited him.

However I would love to have been there to see and hear him speak. It might have given me more insight into how he acted.

No matter how this goes, I will keep up with this story.

Clemens Holds Press Conference; Plays Tape

Roger Clemens held a press conference in Houston concerning his alleged use of performance enhancing drugs today (Monday).

I was listening to it on the radio and saw a piece of it on television. Clemens who had his lawyer Rusty Hardin with him, seemed very upset and was hostile to the press.

In addition, I have listened to the taped conversation between him (Clemens) and his former trainer Brian McNamee that was made on Friday. McNamee never admitted he was lying and Clemens never admitted he didn't use the drugs. Clemens did say he didn't do it (whatever that means).

McNamee asked Clemens repeatedly "What do you want me to do?" Clemens continually said he wanted someone to come out and tell the truth.

At the end of the tape, Clemens said he would visit with some people and get back with McNamee as to what he could do.

During the press conference, he stated he could not give a rats ass about numbers and records and the Hall of Fame. I can understand his being upset, but I think he is protesting too much.

Finally, Clemens filed a defamation suit against McNamee after the taped phone call. I will keep up on this and post more thoughts later.
