The Carpenters were always a part of my listening pleasure as a teenager and college student. I recently started listening to them again and remember why I loved them so much in my youth.
What makes Karen Carpenter so special and timeless was her pure and simple voice that delivered the music in a mesmerizing way. No singers today have that quality.
They screech and over-exaggerate the delivery of their music. Not mesmerizing at all, just annoying. Very few singers and can compare to Karen Carpenter.
Enjoy the video. It is posted below the lyrics.
"Talkin' to myself and feelin' old
Sometimes I'd like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
What I've got they used to call the blues
Nothin' is really wrong
Feelin' like I don't belong
Walkin' around
Some kind of lonely clown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.
Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
Nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me.
What I feel has come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it's all about
Hangin' around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down."

Good call on the Carpenters. We loved that music and damn it was good slow dancing music at the dances in our gym. Many dreams came from that close dancing! Great stuff.
Law and Order Teacher: I did love the slow dancing. More important, the girls LOVED the Carpenters. It made for some great dance dates.
