This is Evel Knievel's first jump shown on Wide World of Sport in 1967. It was rebroadcast on ESPN.
I had never heard of Evel Knievel before 1969. My grandmother was visiting us in Texas and I had a poster of Easy Rider up in my room. She asked if it was Evel Knievel. I told her I had never heard of him. She progressed to tell me who he was and what he had done.
I was amazed that my grandmother knew who he was. I am still amazed to this day. I wonder what else my grandmother knew that she never told me. She was remarkable old girl.
Rest in Peace Grandma. You are not forgotten.
"There are a lot of myths about my injuries. They say I have broken every bone in my body. Not true. But I have broken 35 bones. I had surgery 14 times to pin and plate. I shattered my pelvis. I forget all of the things that have broke." - Evel Knievel

I used to have an EK motorcycle that you could crash er jump things with. I was sad to hear of his passing.
The Vegas Art Guy: He was definately an icon. (Did I spell that right?)
Close enough for me! lol
The Vegas Art Guy: I believe his son Robbie is probably better than he was.
